Local Schools Build Skills for the Future

As part of Apprenticeship Week, Coleg Ceredigion welcomed pupils from local schools to take part in a Construction Day at its Cardigan Campus. The event was organised in conjunction with ConstructionSkills, and was designed to give pupils an insight into the Construction Industry.

Pupils from Ysgol y Preseli, Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi, and Lampeter Schools took part in practical Carpentry and Bricklaying workshops, along with an informative session delivered by Roger Sylvester and local architect Wyn Harris discussing current building requirements and innovation and the benefits of becoming an apprentice.

During the day, the pupils completed projects in both Carpentry and Brickwork, showing promise and enthusiasm in their new skills. Prizes were awarded to the best pupils in each category, along with the best overall performance on the day. Winners in the Carpentry section were Hefin Jones, Dafydd Lloyd and Aled Jones from Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi, whilst the winners in the Brickwork category were Antoine Simmons and Morwena Thomas from Ysgol y Preseli.  The award for best overall pupil was granted to Tommy Thomas of Lampeter School.

Huw Thomas, Curriculum Leader at Coleg Ceredigion commented “The pupils were all very eager to get involved in the activities, and have shown great promise for the future. We would like to thank everyone involved in making the day such a success, particularly Roger Sylvester from ConstructionSkills, Wyn Harris, Paula Holt, Careers Wales, and Cardi Building Supplies and Simon Safety for donating prizes to the worthy winners”.
