There will be opportunities to gain work experience in a variety of venues. You will develop your confidence in coaching through planning and running events.
You will also have the opportunity to take part in skills competitions and enhance your experience through trips and visits relevant to the Sports and Activities industry.
There is a strong focus on giving learners the opportunity to apply their learning in practical activities.
Programme Content
The Level 2 Diploma in Leadership Through Sport course consists of 5 units which includes Organising and Leading Sport Activities, Technical Skills and Tactical Awareness in Sport, Nutrition for Sports Performance, Business in Sport and Organising a Sporting Event.
Each unit is designed to assist the learner to develop leadership and organisational skills whilst improving own sporting performance, health and wellbeing.
Progression & Employment
This course can lead to employment or if you are interested in taking your study of sport further, this qualification will give you a strong foundation for academic and vocational qualifications or apprenticeships at level 3.
Careers directly related to sport include: sport and leisure centre assistants, sports coaching and development, sports clothing and equipment, sports media, fitness instructors.
Method of Assessment
All the units in the qualification are assessed through centre-devised assessment. Each unit has specified learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs grades at A* - D with two C grades, one being either English/Welsh (first language) or maths. Or successful completion of a level one vocational qualification in a relevant subject at merit profile. Must attend and be successful at an interview.
A high level of sporting ability is not a compulsory requirement for the course although an interest and background knowledge of various sports is desirable.
All learners will follow a skills pathway in which they will develop their literacy and numeracy skills for employment. Students who do not yet have the necessary GCSE grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills Qualifications depending on prior GCSE grades.
Additional Costs
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25.00 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery, and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
