This is a flexible course, designed to suit learners who prefer to continue working alongside the qualification.

The course is a required element to progress onto the practice component: Level 2 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Practice.

The qualification maps to the content of the new All Wales Induction Framework for Early Years and Childcare.

Key areas:

• Knowledge and understanding of the core principles and values which underpin children's care, play, learning and development practice.
• Knowledge and understanding of ways of working in the children's care, play, learning and development sectors.
• Knowledge and understanding which informs effective practice.

Core knowledge and understanding to support progression to further study or employment within children's care, play, learning and development.

This qualification has a core of underpinning knowledge, skills and understanding, and a range of options to reflect the breadth of pathways within this sector. Learner progression could include further study onto level 2 CCPLD: Practice; level 3 CCPLD: Practice, an apprenticeship or employment. 

The level of progression will depend on the overall success achieved in the qualification.

This course is assessed through a combination of internal and external assessment. Candidates must successfully complete:

• Three externally set, internal scenario-based assessments; and
• One externally set, externally marked multiple-choice test.

You will be required to undertake a successful interview and be formally assessed using the WEST toolkit. You will also require a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

You will need to provide your own stationery.

Sufficient time must be permitted by the workplace to allow regular meetings between assessor, learner and manager.
