Erasmus+ is the European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport. The organisation gives young people a chance to study, volunteer and gain work experience abroad, develop new skills, gain vital international experience and boost their employability skills.
At Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion, we are committed to providing international work placement opportunities for our learners.
International Work Placements for Sport, Outdoor Adventure and Tourism learners
As part of the Erasmus+ mobility project, 12 Coleg Sir Gâr learners per year, from Outdoor Adventure, Sport and Tourism are given the opportunity to work abroad in Palma, Mallorca. During the 2-week trip, students get a taste of work in a surfing centre, sailing club and hotels, absorbing the language, culture and climate of Spain. The aim of the trip is to broaden horizons for the students, learn employability skills and ultimately, to have a new experience. The trip encourages learners to be independent by budgeting, organising transport to work placements and participating in cultural activities. The nature of the visit is to empower students to make their own choices and grasp the opportunity with both hands, immersing fully in a work placement overseas. Students can expect to be challenged but ultimately have one of the most valuable learning experiences whilst at college.
In 2017, 4 Childcare learners from Coleg Ceredigion took part in a 2 week placement in Spain and this year catering students from Coleg Ceredigion and Coleg Sir Gâr will be visiting France and Spain. Childcare and Health & Social Care students will visit Spain as will learners from Furniture Making and Creative Industries.
