Preparation for Public Services Level 2

Programme Description

The course will provide a comprehensive and challenging programme of study and will help you take your first steps towards a career supporting the public. You will learn the essential skills for a wide range of job roles across the public services sector, from the armed services and police force to roles at local authorities and central government. Coleg Ceredigion work closely with the emergency services to inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the sector.

Programme Features

The course is delivered both in the classroom and outdoors and you will also have the opportunity to visit workplaces and employers in the public services. Visiting speakers and experts will also come to the college to speak to you about their involvement in the public services. You will also have the opportunity to partake in Welsh language and cultural activities. 

Programme Content

You will learn the essential skills for a wide range of job roles across the public services sector, from the armed services and police force to roles at local authorities and central government. Coleg Ceredigion will be working closely with the emergency services to inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the sector.

All learners will follow a Skills Pathway in which they will develop their literacy and numeracy skills for employment. Students who do not yet have the necessary GCSE grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills Qualifications depending on prior GCSE grades.

Method of Assessment

Units are either internally or externally assessed. The college designs and assesses the internal assessments through assignments and active participation. Pearson sets and marks the external assessments.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grades A* - D with 2 Cs, one being either English/Welsh (1st language) or Maths. Or successful completion of L1 vocational qualification in relevant subject at Merit or above.

Additional Costs

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25.00 prior to enrolment.

You will need to provide your own stationery, and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits
