This learning programme will enable you to achieve a recognised vocational related qualification in light vehicle motor vehicle maintenance and repair.
Delivery of the programme is undertaken in a purpose-built facility, which has workshops equipped with the latest equipment and tools used within the motor vehicle maintenance and repair sector.
The programme aims to provide you with an enjoyable, stimulating and challenging learning experience, with an emphasis placed on developing practical skills that are required by a modern vehicle mechanic.
The programme also focuses on improving learners’ confidence, employability and entrepreneurship prospects. You will be allocated a personal tutor who will support you with your progress and provide pastoral care for the duration of the programme.
When you successfully complete this course, you will have the opportunity to progress to the level three diploma in light vehicle maintenance and repair in Coleg Ceredigion.
Alternatively, success on the course could provide a pathway into apprenticeship or employment in the automotive industry.
You will also follow a skills pathway in which you will develop your literacy and numeracy skills for employment. If you do not yet have the necessary GCSE grades at C or above, you will receive additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills qualifications depending on prior GCSE grades.
The programme’s success rate is above the national average and provides progression to either a level three diploma in motor vehicle maintenance and repair programme or a foundation apprenticeship programme.
If you have the necessary prerequisites, you will have an option to transfer to a foundation apprenticeship whilst on the programme, should you wish to do so.
The units within the programme consist of the following motor vehicle knowledge and skill subject sets:
Subject knowledge and skills are assessed via: online multi-choice assessments, written assessments and practical task observations.
You will be required to have four GCSEs grades at A* to D with two C grades, one being either English/Welsh (first language) or maths.
Or successful completion of a level one vocational qualification in a relevant subject at merit or above.
Learners with prior relevant industry experience will also be considered
Due to the practical work undertaken as part of the programme, applicants should be in good physical health and have reasonable dexterity.
All applicants will undergo an interview and basic skills assessments to establish their suitability, for the programme.
