Level 3 Diploma and NVQ in Brickwork

Programme Description



This level three framework is designed for those wishing to pursue a career in the profession of construction. 

A foundation apprenticeship is a work-based learning programme at level two where the learner is earning while learning.

You will be employed as an apprentice and receive at least the minimum apprenticeship wage. You will be expected to attend college on a day release basis and with support, should achieve the level two foundation apprenticeship framework within the agreed timescale.

This qualification provides a nationally agreed trowel occupations foundation apprenticeship framework for a work based learning route into employment within the construction industry, using qualifications that combine both practical skills and knowledge. 

The workshops provide excellent facilities to construct a variety of real-life simulated projects relevant to the construction industry.


Programme Features



The college has a fully equipped workshop where you will develop your practical skills by carrying out construction tasks in a realistic environment. The CITB training advisor will continue to  oversee and support you through your journey on this framework, working closely both with your employer and tutors at college. 

You will be expected to attend college one day per week for underpinning knowledge, and assessment will also take place in college or workplace on a regular basis. This course is both theory and practical based.


Progression & Employment



On successful completion of this course you will be able to; 

  • set out elaborate houses / extensions,  
  • forming a variety of foundations and slabs
  • be able to build cavity walls up to wall plate, incorporating complex brickwork features in  forming openings. 
  • You will have the capacity to play a more central role in the house build process.

Progression from this course will be onto Level 4 diploma in Site Supervision which is offered at Coleg Ceredigion.

  • Erecting masonry structures in the workplace 
  • Confirming the occupational method of work in the workplace
  • Erecting complex masonry structures in the workplace 
  • Setting out complex masonry structures in the workplace

Programme Assessment



A variety of assessment methods are used which include written knowledge questions, online and practical skills tests. Units are assessed by an NVQ portfolio and/or practically in the work place through the observation of working practices. Written and on line tests for the theory knowledge of NVQ and diploma qualifications will also be undertaken within the college.

Additional Costs



All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £45.00 prior to enrolment.

You will need to provide your own stationery, and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits
