This is a person-centered discrete course for students with learning disabilities and difficulties. All learners are expected to undertake initial assessments for Literacy, Numeracy and Independence in order to identify realistic targets for progression, whether going onto a further course of study or work (supported or unsupported).
The programme is learner-led with a main focus on personalised target setting. The course aims to enable learners to develop their Independent Living Skills, Health and Wellbeing, Employability and Community Participation whilst embedding Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy skills in all areas.
The main qualification, where appropriate to the individual learner, is BTEC Entry Level along with Literacy and Numeracy.
Learners can progress onto further courses if appropriate. Students can progress initially onto Level 1 Catering, Level 1 Vocational Studies and Level 1 Animal Studies in Aberystwyth.
Other learners can go onto employment (supported and unsupported). Past learners have gone into employment at Morrisons supermarket, Plas Gogerddan Nursery, Bronglais Hospital, Urdd Llangrannog, and other local businesses.
BTEC qualifications or target-based depending on the individual needs of the learner.
There are no formal entry requirements. Most learners have a Statement of Educational Needs or SAPRA and are referred onto the course through the specialist Careers Wales Advisor who attends regular school reviews along with a representative from the college.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £45.00 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery, and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits
