Hairdressing Level 2

Programme Description

An ideal opportunity to develop your creativity and challenge your skills. This is a highly practical course with an emphasis on developing skills through continuous training and assessment.  Learners attend timetabled salon and classroom sessions on the following topics:

Health & Safety, Working in the Industry, Consultation, Style and Dress Hair, Cut Women’s Hair, Colouring, Promote Products and Services, Gent’s Cutting, Creating an Image.

Programme Features

Our Hair and Beauty salons are specifically designed for training purposes and have all the latest equipment and resources. Candidates will need to be highly motivated and be willing to work as part of a team. As a department we are keen to encourage students to reach their full potential by participating in both in- house and national competitions.  We also run enrichment days to include, affinage colouring, ear piercing, gel nail polish, hair extensions and theatrical make-up. You will also have the opportunity to attend trade shows, seminars, workshops as well as organised sector related trips

Programme Content

You learn with your assessor through practical sessions, group discussions or assignments. You'll have access to a realistic hairdressing environment where you'll practice and demonstrate your skills.

The course units are listed in the programme description. Each unit contains an element of both theory and practical work. There will also be integrated numeracy and literacy work within the units as learners will be expected to carry out an essential skill in both these topics.

Programme Assessment

Practical work will be assessed using observation methods and product evidence. The theory work will be assessed with an online multiple-choice exam.

Programme Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grades A* - D with 2 Cs, one being either English/Welsh (1st language) or Maths. Or successful completion of L1 vocational qualification in relevant subject. Mature learners without qualifications may be accepted subject to successful interview.

All learners will follow a Skills Pathway in which they will develop their literacy and numeracy skills for employment. Students who do not yet have the necessary GCSE grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills Qualifications depending on prior GCSE grades.

Hairdressing kit in the region of £200

Uniform in the region of £80

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £45.00 prior to enrolment.

You will need to provide your own stationary, and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits
