Programme Description

The level 3 Health and Social Care course will provide a comprehensive and challenging programme of study that will prepare you for further study at degree level, or to improve your skills and qualifications should you wish to seek employment in the health or social care field.

Programme Features

The course is mainly delivered in the classroom however you will have the opportunity to visit workplaces and employers in the sector. 

As part of the course, you will be required to undertake a minimum of 100 hours volunteering experience in the health or social care sector over the course of two years tailored towards your future career aspirations. You will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. 

All members of staff delivering this course have vast experience in working in the Health and Social Care or Health Science sector and therefore a number of local and national contacts have been nurtured to offer additional opportunities to all learners. We have a brand new purpose-built health science laboratory on campus that enables practical, current and up-to-date teaching and learning in the science behind the healthcare professions. We also have links with various universities and research institutions and during the course you will be given the opportunity to visit these to undertake further practical work in the field of health and social care.Work can be presented through the medium of Welsh or English.

This qualification has a core of underpinning knowledge, skills and understanding, and a range of options to reflect the breadth of pathways within the Health and/or Social Care sector.

Method of Assessment

Units are internally assessed and externally moderated. Assignments may take the form of essays, reports, practical laboratory work, presentations, discussions and so on.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs (or equivalent) of grade C or above. Entry is dependent on a selection interview. Entry for students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Curriculum Area.
