Meet our students who are studying animal care at Coleg Ceredigion

Here at Coleg Ceredigion we offer a range of animal care courses that you can study, these include Animal Care level 1, Animal Care level 2, Animal Care level 3.

All courses lead to developing skills to work in the animal care industry and employment opportunities include trainee animal care workers in pet shops, stables, zoos, rescue kennels and catteries as well as animal hospital care assistants.

Learners have the opportunity to learn how to build on their skills of working with animals and how to work safely and be responsible for the planning and carrying out of animal husbandry health, handling, and feeding tasks.

Ffion Lewis, Katie Dadd and Goncalo Dias are currently studying Animal Care level 3 and have shared their experience of studying at Coleg Ceredigion and what they hope to achieve in the future.

“I love studying animal care as it talks a lot about different animals and everyday I learn something new and interesting. The tutors also add to this love for the course as they make the experience of learning enjoyable and make the environment very comfortable and open.

“For the future I hope to either be a vet or vet nurse. At the moment I am still deciding and being at a vet practice for my work experience placement, it is helping a lot with my decision making.”

Goncalo Dias

“I love studying animal care as I am passionate about the unique differences between all animals and the symbiotic relationship they have with their environments. I'm also passionate about Animal Welfare and what we as owners and keepers can do to improve their welfare and care. Fortunately this course covered all these topics and subjects in depth.

“After completing the course this year I have applied to five universities to study Zoology, with hopes to stay local and study in Aberystwyth. I then hope to complete my degree and then undertake a PGCE to then go into the world of work and teach biology and animal care to young people and spark that passion and interest for animals that I have.

“The most interesting part of the course is being surrounded by people who share similar ideas and a common passion and interest for animals and learning new things from one another. The lecturers have provided an amazing and safe space in order for us to thrive and learn and be ourselves whilst learning about a subject we are passionate about.”

“I am a mature student and moved from Shropshire to Aberystwyth. I wanted to go to college to better my career prospects and want to be able to work with animals.

“I love all animals and I learn new things daily. I like the variety, with practicals and interaction within class. I started with level two  animal care and am now studying year one of level three. My tutors are very helpful and supportive. “
