Free entrepreneurial programme to benefit young people

A collaborative project supported by Welsh Government is set to benefit business-minded young people in Ceredigion with a free eight-week programme created by entrepreneurs.

The Academy of Tomorrow, which starts on Wednesday, January 15, has been jointly created by Coleg Ceredigion, Ceredigion County Council and Cynnal y Cardi and has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.

Designed for 14 to 16 year-olds, the programme will deliver free two-hour sessions at Coleg Ceredigion’s Aberystwyth campus to help develop creativity, promote entrepreneurship and develop a business model with a prototype to present to an expert panel.

The programme is divided into four areas of interest; performing arts, video and photography, art entrepreneur and food entrepreneur.

Food Entrepreneur: This workshop will focus on what is great about food in the region. Participants will identify how best to design an awareness campaign and promote a food related project that provides opportunities to learn about the process of food development from idea, manufacturing to product delivery.

Performing Arts: Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch performs annually to over 24,000 children and young people with the aim of creating Welsh theatre mainly for young people and children. Workshops led by Arad Goch will focus on a project relating to creating, managing and operating an event.

Video and Photography: AMP Media is an Aberystwyth based multi-media company that works with clients to create and deliver full service content, branding and marketing solutions from conception to production.

Workshops will focus on the processes around identifying an idea, setting up a project and utilising the latest video, photography and multimedia tools and techniques to create an output that is current, relevant and creative.

Art Entrepreneur: What is art and how can we create an art focused business? A variety of experts will provide insights as to how they have grown their businesses, identifying the skills required and providing opportunities to use creative ideas to generate art products and learn how to develop an art focused business.

Transport has been arranged to collect children from schools at 4pm, returning at 6.30pm and free snacks and drinks will be provided.

All participants will be invited to an event in June where work will be showcased alongside other businesses and entrepreneurs in Ceredigion.

Kevin Williams, programme coordinator said: “These entrepreneurial focussed workshops also provide evidence for employers, universities and colleges that show motivation, commitment, focus and a willingness to try new things.

“We’re looking forward to inspiring young people to generate lots of new ideas and experiment developing business models and prototypes in a nurturing and professional environment.”
