Skills Competition Wales success

There was success for Coleg Ceredigion at the recent Skills Competition Wales, with medals for the catering and construction departments.

Level two hospitality and catering student at the college’s Cardigan campus Celt John, claimed silver in the patisserie and confectionery category.

Celt along with 12 other competitors had three and a half hours to create and cook four portions of hot vanilla souffle, sablé la poche and Paris breast.

According to Celt: “It has been an amazing experience to compete at this level.

“The competition was of a very high standard and it is an honour to take home the silver medal.

“I would like to thank the staff at Coleg Ceredigion and the catering department for the training and support that they gave me prior to and during the competition.”

There was also success for level three carpentry student Gethin Morgans who gained bronze in the site carpentry category.
Gethin, who currently works for Davies and Morgan a local carpenters and roofers in Lampeter, was among the ten competitors tasked with completing a complex roof structure within an allocated time.

According to Coleg Ceredigion carpentry lecturer Ben James: “We as a department are very proud of Gethin’s achievement.

“He’s worked hard in preparation for this event and performed professionally and calm under huge pressure.

“The quality of the end product that he produced shows what a skilled craftsman he is and I have no doubt that competing in such competitions will aid him for the rest of his studies and beyond.”
