From carpentry course to project management degree
After four years studying at Coleg Ceredigion, former carpentry students Declan Harries and Matthew Freebury are moving on to pastures new.
Declan and Matthew started at the college studying a level one carpentry and joinery course before progressing to the level four CIOB construction site management certificate higher apprenticeship, which they completed last academic year.
Both will now progress to study a degree in construction project management at University of South Wales.
Giving their reason for studying at Coleg Ceredigion, Matthew said: “We were both interested in pursing a career in carpentry and the carpentry course at Coleg Ceredigion had a more practical emphasis to it.
“The facilities are excellent and the tutors are really friendly and helpful.”
Declan agreed before going on to say: “We were very fortunate that these courses were free, especially the level four as the course was funded by CITB (Construction Industry Training Board).
“If that course wasn't offered at Coleg Ceredigion we wouldn't be interested in perusing a higher level course as we would have to travel further.”
