If you are interested in performing arts, or art and design, then this creative arts course is for you.

All things creative, our Level 2 OCR Cambridge Technicals in Performing Arts and Art and Design Course provides you with the practical experience to help develop the skills and knowledge that will equip you to continue onto a Level 3 Course and then on to employment within this broad and competitive creative sector.

Programme Features

This course focuses on providing you with the skills and knowledge needed to progress on to a level three course. Our level two creative arts course will guide you in the technical skills to make your work stand out and give you the knowledge, inspiration and above all confidence to explore your own performance and creative artistic ideas. We have a versatile approach, with a focus on making your ideas and creative work unique and industry focused. 

You will look at a range of disciplines in performing arts such as acting, singing and dancing with a strong emphasis towards creating your own performance skills and techniques. 

The art and design course covers a broad range of art skills using different media to develop confidence and creative expression, with practical projects, visits to art galleries and the chance to build a portfolio to progress to further study.  

Programme Content

The Level 2 OCR Cambridge Technical Creative Arts Course consists of four Units in Performing Arts:

  • Developing Acting skills and Techniques
  • Dance Showcase
  • The Performing Arts Industry
  • Performance Project

Three Units in Art and Design:

  • Exploring the Work of Artists and Designers
  • Developing Ideas in Response to a Brief
  • Exploring Self-Image

All learners will follow a Skills Pathway in which they will develop their literacy and numeracy skills for employment. Students who do not yet have the necessary GCSE grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills Qualifications depending on prior GCSE grades.

Progression and Employment

Achieving these qualifications will allow progression to the study of vocational qualifications at level three, such as the BTEC level three Extended Diploma in Performing Arts, and the BTEC level three Extended Diploma in Art and Design.

These courses specifically prepare learners to enter employment or apprenticeships, or to move to higher education within universities or drama and art schools.

Method of assessment

Units are assessed internally.

Entry Requirements

All applicants will need to attend a workshop and interview and demonstrate ability level. Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview. 

4 GCSEs grades A* - D with 2 Cs, one being either English/Welsh (1st language) or maths. Or successful completion of a level one vocational qualification in a relevant subject at merit or above.

Additional Costs

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25.00 prior to enrolment.

You will need to provide your own stationery, and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
