Working as a mechanic in the field of electric and hybrid vehicles requires specialised knowledge and skills due to the unique technology and components involved. Here are some important aspects to consider.

This course is for the individual looking to further their knowledge, and learn how to repair and replace systems on a hybrid/electric vehicle.

This training course contains two mandatory units EV2.2 and EV3. EV2.2 covers all of the skills and knowledge from IMI Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicles Routine Maintenance
Activities and EV3 covers skills in:

  • Working safely on an electric/hybrid vehicle
  • Using information to carry out the task
  • Carrying out repairs on high energy electrical systems
  • Recording information and making suitable recommendations

As a result, learners successfully completing this qualification will acquire significant core knowledge and skills and the ability to remove and replace electric/hybrid vehicle high voltage components.

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for anyone who is involved in the diagnosis and repair of hybrid and electric vehicles. This could include service and repair technicians, diagnostic technicians and auto electricians.

Entry Requirements

This three day, hands on course is for technicians who are Level 3 qualified Motor Vehicle qualified.

Progression and Employment
  • IMI Level 4 Award in Diagnosis, testing and repair of electric/hybrid vehicles and components.

A ban on the sales of new petrol and diesel only cars and vans will be introduced in 2030. This places greater emphasis on the urgency of the need for current motor mechanics to upskill to ensure sustainability and long term employment.
