ESOL – English for Speakers of Other Languages

ESOL programs are offered to assist individuals with limited English proficiency in acquiring the necessary language skills for communication, education and employment into their new communities.

There are two afternoon classes in the college in Aberystwyth and one evening class online at intermediate level.

Programme Content

We practise all the language skills 

  • Speaking and listening 
  • Reading and writing 
  • Some numeracy and study skills as well. 
Progression and Employment

We encourage learners who want to work towards

  • Joining other courses in college or university 
  •  Finding a job. 

You may want to improve your level of English for family reasons for example  helping children or grandchildren with schoolwork and we are happy to help. 

Method of assessment

We offer help to build portfolios of work for Agored ESOL certificates.

We like to respond to each learner’s needs – for example to help you to prepare for external examinations like:

  • Driving Theory Test 
  • English for Citizenship eg Trinity, Cambridge
  • Life in the UK test
  • Occupational English Test 
Entry Requirements
  • Classes are open for all learners from beginners (A1) up to intermediate level (B2).
  • You may join at any time of year between September and June.  
  • You should visit the college first to talk about classes for yourself, you are welcome to come with someone you know.
Additional Costs

You will need to buy a textbook.
